Gia Loc is a namesake label based in Toronto, Canada.

In Chinese-Vietnamese tradition, all kin of a generation share a name. Gia is the designer’s generational name, while Loc, meaning ‘joy,’ is his personal name. In Vietnamese, the naming hierarchy places the generational name first, followed by the personal name. This idea serves as a reminder that the collective comes before the individual. That an individual is never alone. After distancing himself from his Chinese-Vietnamese name in his youth, Loc reclaims it as the foundation for his creative practice.

At the heart of the brand is a curiosity about how individuals come together as a collective. Exploring this involves tuning into what connects us. How can design encourage this connection? How can everyday objects exist as a source of joy?
